Children & Infants
Here to help
Our ground and cabin staff are trained to help young people – and those flying with them – to enjoy their flights. Loganair hopes the following information will help put your mind at ease when planning a trip with young children.
Age definitions:
- Infants are those up to 2 years
- Children are those 2-11 inclusive
- Youths are those 12-15 inclusive
- Those 16 and over are classified as adults
Expectant Mothers
A medical letter is required stating the duration of pregnancy and fitness for travel after 28 weeks. Travel is not permitted after 36 weeks or within seven days of the expected delivery date. New mothers may only travel within seven days of giving birth on completion of the required medical form.
Exceptions:
To/from Highlands/Islands, travel is permitted up to 40 weeks, and no limitation post-birth with a doctor’s note stating fitness to travel.
Travelling with infants
Infants who have not reached their second birthday and are carried on their parent’s lap do not pay airfare, though taxes are applicable at some of the airports Loganair serves.
An infant aged between 6 months and under two years may be carried in their forward-facing, approved car seat; though a child fare will apply for the booked seat. Loganair does not provide car seats.
- During take-off and landing, an adult must hold an infant and only one infant can be held.
Children between 2 and 11 travelling with their parents will receive a discount on the appropriate fare (taxes/fees/charges are not discounted).
Please see here for luggage allowances for infants.
Children travelling solo
Loganair no longer allows children to travel unaccompanied due to child welfare issues. We appreciate this may cause some inconvenience, and we thank you for understanding that child welfare is a matter we take very seriously.
Instead, we’ll launch a ‘drop off’ fare to allow parents or guardians to travel with a reduced-cost same-day return ticket. Please get in touch with the call centre on 0344 800 2855 for more information.
Youths travelling solo
If a child between 12 and 15 is travelling on their own, please be aware that they will be booked as adults and, therefore, will be making their way through departure and arrival airports and boarding their flight(s) without a chaperone. Loganair cannot accept responsibility for the young person.
The parent/guardian should ensure that the young person carries the necessary documentation with them and can communicate with their parent/guardian and the person collecting them at the destination. We recommend that the parent or guardian accompanying children to the airport waits until their flight departs before leaving the terminal.
A youth (12-15) pays the adult fare, and the booking should be made via Loganair’s call centre on 0344 800 2855.
A youth is exempt from paying the Government’s Air Passenger Duty. Loganair offers Young Scot fares for members of the Young Scot program (12-25-year-olds). Ask a member of the call centre for more details.
