Security updates at UK airports (Summer 2024)

To improve passenger security, UK airports are in the process of installing new security screening equipment,

Regulations coming into force on 1 June 2024 will require UK airports to upgrade their X-ray screening equipment for baggage, and body scanners will be introduced for passenger screening.

As everyone adapts to the new security procedures, we recommend that you allow plenty of time to get through security. As some airports may take longer than others to complete the upgrades, we advise customers to check with individual airports for their up-to-date security screening rules after 1 June 2024.

If you are unsure, please prepare for security as usual. For hand luggage, this means liquids must still be in containers of up to 100 ml and carried in a clear 1-litre resealable plastic bag (20x20 cm). Electrical items such as laptops must also be removed from hand luggage for security screening.
