Loganair celebrates carrying over one million passengers at Edinburgh Airport

The UK’s largest regional airline, Loganair, has celebrated a major milestone at Edinburgh Airport by surprising one of its regular customers with free flights.

 

Gemma Smith, a nurse who works offshore within the oil and gas industry, was travelling from Orkney to Edinburgh when she was gifted with free flights on arrival as the airline celebrated carrying over one million customers at the airport.

Travelling from her home in Kirkwall, Gemma regularly flies with the airline for work offshore and booked her tickets for this trip using Clan Loganair points – the airline’s frequent flyer programme. Gemma’s trip to Edinburgh marked a special occasion as she reunited with friends she hasn’t seen since before the Covid-19 pandemic.

 

Gemma said:

“I fly with Loganair regularly for work, so it’s really nice to be travelling for leisure today, and to top things off, I have been lucky enough to be given some free flights.

I’m looking forward to using the tickets to take a trip with my partner, and I’m hoping to fly to London for a weekend to visit Harry Potter World!”

 

As it builds on its one million customer milestone, Loganair has set out plans for carrying its largest-ever number of customers through Edinburgh Airport in Summer 2024 with up to a 35% increase in seat capacity on a number of routes.

The airline will introduce two new ATR72-600 Next Generation turboprops to its operating base at the airport, with eight new jobs created at Edinburgh for cabin crew to operate the larger aircraft.

 

Across its network from Edinburgh Airport, Loganair provides essential connectivity across the UK and Europe, with its further connection to Bergen in Norway. Among other routes, the airline provides daily services from Scotland’s capital to communities at both the very north and very south of the UK, with direct flights available to Cardiff, Exeter, Newquay and Sumburgh.

 

As it continues to build on capacity from the airport, Loganair has also made changes to its services from Edinburgh to improve connectivity, including: 

  • a new Thursday service between Edinburgh and Cornwall Airport Newquay, operating in summer 2024.
  • a new Saturday afternoon service between Edinburgh and Southampton, operating in summer 2024.
  • Saturday morning flights between Edinburgh and Southampton have been re-timed with cruise travellers in mind, with an 8.00 am departure on Saturday from Edinburgh and a 9:55 am departure from Southampton for those returning on early morning cruise arrivals.
  • a new evening schedule between Edinburgh and the Isle of Man has been introduced– designed to help both business and leisure travellers maximise time spent at their destination. Flights will operate through the summer on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays, with additional rotations on Saturdays around the Isle of Man TT Races in June.
