Loganair brings Four Men and a Dog to Orkney Folk Festival

Scotland’s airline is set to support the Orkney Folk Festival in its 37th year by flying iconic Irish band, Four Men and a Dog, to Orkney to headline the event.

The four-day event, which is based in Stromness, will take place 23-26 May and feature 52 artists from as far afield as Cuba and the Cape Breton Islands, as well as plenty of homegrown talent from Orkney’s world-class folk scene.

As part of its programme, the festival will include 36 events including concerts, stomps, talks, clubs, ceilidhs and pub sessions.

The programme will take place in 19 venues across Orkney’s communities including Burray, Finstown, Orphir, Quoyloo and St. Margaret’s Hope, and Kirkwall’s near 900-year-old St Magnus Cathedral.

Loganair Comercial Director, Kay Ryan said: “We look forward to once again sponsoring the Orkney Folk Festival; a tremendously fun event that showcases Orkney’s unique culture and spirit”

“While it has been a busy period for the airline as we expand our network, Orkney will always be a priority for Loganair, ensuring our growth continually improves connectivity to the isles to facilitate the success of events such as the Orkney Folk Festival”

“We also happily changed tickets for the group to travel a day earlier: we originally planned to transport the group to the festival on Monday 23rd May, however subsequent strike action by HIAL Air Traffic Control meant their ability to reach the festival was cast into doubt, furthermore we extended flexibility for the group to travel on Sunday 22nd instead, and are delighted we could help the show go on”

Festival Director, Bob Gibbon said: “I am overwhelmed by the support that we are getting from Loganair for this year’s Orkney Folk Festival. While we have worked together for many years now, as Official Airline Partner it is great to have our relationship cemented in this way.

“Loganair is now playing a more active role in our travel arrangements, and without that kind of help it would be near impossible to invite acts of this calibre to take part in the festival.

“Travel costs are one of our main expenses of running this festival in such a beautiful and remote setting, and any help we can get towards that is very much appreciated.”

Gino Lupari, musician in Four Men and a Dog said: “We often find that travel sponsorship is vital for festivals to attract top musical acts, that otherwise local folk wouldn’t get to see.

“Loganair’s sponsorship of our travel from Dublin to Inverness and then on to Orkney is fantastic – and not only that but the direct flights from Dublin to Inverness makes getting to the Scottish Highlands and Islands very quick and convenient.

“Thanks to Loganair for getting “the dogs” to Orkney Folk Festival 2019! We look forward to performing.”
