Travel from Kristiansand
Holiday fun for all the family
The largest city in Southern Norway and the country’s most popular family holiday resort, Kristiansand is often nicknamed ‘the coolest Riveria’, the ideal base to explore the region’s patchwork of quaint coastal towns.
Packed full of enticing shops, interesting museums and a bustling city beach, the city is the ideal starting part for a Southern Norwegian adventure.
Its box-office attraction is Dyreparken -
- a zoo, amusement park and water park which welcomes hundreds of thousands of visitors every year. The zoo is home to an array of Scandinavian animals such as wolves and moose, as well as exotic animals like alligators, orangutans and Siberian tigers.
After a day exploring Dyreparken, what better way to relax than lounging on Kristiansand’s Blue Flag beach, Bystranda, complete with a swimming pier, sun deck and tropical palm trees. Its Blue Flag status means it’s a safe and beautiful spot for spending a sunny afternoon.
If relaxing on the beach has recharged your batteries, Kilden is an excellent choice for some evening entertainment. Southern Norway’s largest performing arts centre, it has a stacked line-up of concerts, theatre, opera and dance shows while in the summer months it hosts free concerts almost every evening. The building alone is worth the visit and it’s a great way to soak up some local culture after a day exploring everything the region has to offer.
Nature Parks
The Ravnedalen nature park is only a short stroll from Kristiansand town centre but upon arrival ramblers will feel like the stumbled upon a magical wilderness of beautiful lawns, ornate bridges and an array of wild gardens to get lost in. During the summer months the park hosts a lively calendar of concerts, festivals and theatre productions.
Norway may not be first place which springs to mind ...
... when beach parties are mentioned but Palmesus is a summer party on the city beach in Kristiansand.
Impressively, its Scandinavia’s biggest beach festival, attended by over 60,000 party goers eager to strut their stuff to superstar DJs every July.
