Travel to Campbeltown
Coast along to golf, whisky, wildlife and natural beauty
The spectacular western seaboard of Scotland boasts innumerable historic and beautiful beaches, bays, anchorages, villages and towns, each with its own fascinating character and memorable tales. One such destination is Campbeltown, on the glorious Kintyre Peninsula (yes, the inspiration for Paul McCartney’s hit, Mull of Kintyre).
As a harbour town with a long-established heritage in tourism, Campbeltown offers boating holidays and sea tours to help you explore the coastline and seek out the remarkable birdlife and wildlife of the Firth of Clyde and beyond. For landlubbers, the many other diversions and delights include six golf courses, such as the sensational Machrihanish and Machrihanish Dunes 18-hole links courses. Loganair offers Away Day and Overnight golf packages to both. Then there are the mountain bike trails of Beinn Ghuilean to experience and invigorating walks … or just potter around this endearing part of the world.
The Art Nouveau Picture House
The town has Scotland’s oldest continuously run purpose-built cinema, in the Art Nouveau Picture House which opened showing silent movies in 1913, but the true main feature has to be Campbeltown’s three Scotch whisky distilleries. For generations, Campbeltown was Whisky Town, with 34 distilleries no less, and the tours available in the three remaining establishments can pour out fabulous stories of how uisge beatha was (and still is) created here.
Loganair flies to Campbeltown twice every weekday - fly Glasgow to Campbeltown and lift your spirit.
Campbeltown was once a thriving malt whisky region ...
... of no fewer than 34 distilleries, no mean feat for a small and remote settlement at the bottom of the long Kintyre peninsula. Only three of them remain Springbank, Glengyle, and Glen Scotia, but they make up for the small number by producing five distinctive malts between them. Sign up to a tour and have a taste of the amber nectar.
Mull of Kintyre Festival
The Mull of Kintyre Music Festival, more commonly known as MOK Fest, is a mix of concerts, ceilidhs, workshops, children's entertainment, parades, cultural and heritage tours all in one stunning location. Enjoy a mix of traditional and contemporary music in various locations across Campbeltown.
