Jurassic World at the Jurassic Coast?
Let's discover some fossils...
Fancy something a bit more adventurous than watching Jurassic World? How about heading to the Jurassic Coast this summer? You won’t find dinosaurs at the Jurassic Coast, but you can spot some rare fossils, even dinosaur ones perhaps!
Jurassic Coast
Did you know that the Jurassic Coast in Dorset used to be one of the more important sources of Jurassic reptiles such as the plesiosaurs and ichthyosaurs? In Jurassic times, when sea levels fell and created swampy forests, dinosaurs ruled the land. For fossil hunting, there are many guided walks based around Lyme Regis and Charmouth, and just a short distance away from the Jurassic Coast, in Purbeck, you can find the Spyway Dinosaur Footprints; footprints made by Jurassic giants, around 145 million years ago! They’re easily accessible from the Priest’s Way walking path, making them a must if you’re in the area. If you fancy even more Jurassic excitement, there’s even a Dinosaur Museum in Dorchester!
