West Highland Way
Just a 20-minute drive from Glasgow, West Highland Way starts from Milngavie and goes all the way to Fort William in the Scottish Highlands. The whole route is 96 miles long and will take you to some outstanding Scottish scenery and landscapes, such as Loch Lomond, Scotland’s biggest loch and Rannoch, the grandest moor. You can either take on the challenge and walk it the whole way, which would take about a week to walk it, or you can do it in sections, in which you could still see some incredible sights. There is accommodation (B&Bs, hotels and campsites) and places to stop for food throughout the hike, meaning it’s easier to make stops and take breaks as and when you need to.
- Fly to Glasgow from Barra, Benbecula, Campbeltown, City of Derry, Exeter, Islay, Kirkwall, Southampton, Stornoway, Sumburgh and Tiree.
Causeway Coast Way, County Antrim
Less than an hour away from City of Derry, you can find Causeway Coast Way; a 33-mile trail which goes all the way from Portstewart to Ballycastle. The route also goes through the seaside towns of Coleraine, Portstewart and Portrush, as well as passes near the famous Irish Whiskey distillery at Bushmills. During your hike, you can see the Giant Causeway, Carrick-a-Rede Rope Bridge and Dunluce Castle, as well as some highly scenic cliffs! The hike usually takes a hiker of average fitness around 2 to 3 days to complete, and throughout the way, there are signposts to assure hikers which directions they’re to follow.
- Fly to City of Derry from Edinburgh, Glasgow, Liverpool and London Stansted.
Raad Ny Foillan, Isle of Man
The Isle of Man’s scenic views, fresh sea air and natural paths are just a few reasons which make the island the perfect place for anyone who loves going on hikes. From those new to the hiking world to those who are more experienced, the island has enough trails for any walk desired. For those who like a challenging hike, the 102-mile Raad Ny Foillan (The Way of the Gull) coastal footpath, which takes you all around the Isle of Man, is the one to try. You can even break it down into 12 manageable sections, which are built for experienced walkers. For those who do not wish to do the whole way, there are a lot of shorter looped walks on the coastal footpath. Along this hike, you’ll discover incredible scenery and the majestic coast, as well as be able to spot some seabirds!
- Fly to Isle of Man from Birmingham, Edinburgh, Liverpool, London City, London Heathrow and Manchester.
Southwest Coast Path, Cornwall & Devon
The 630-mile South West Coast Path twists and turns along the coastline, all the way from Minehead in Somerset to Poole Harbour in Dorset. The best part about this hiking path is that you can always go for a refreshing dip when it gets too warm! This hiking trail is quite popular, especially around the summertime, but you can still find some hidden coves to stop for a rest. You can probably even find a secluded beach, all for yourself! With magnificent sea views, wildflowers, and, if you’re lucky, even dolphins, this hike offers an incredible experience! The whole path takes around 7 weeks to complete, so it’s definitely a challenge! However, if you wish, you can do smaller sections of the path, which would take a lot less time.
- Fly to Exeter from Edinburgh, Glasgow, Jersey, Newcastle and Norwich and to Newquay from Edinburgh, Manchester, Newcastle and Teesside International.
