Sliabh Liag
Here’s a bucket list experience for you – feeling the fresh breeze on your skin on Europe’s highest accessible cliffs. Standing over 600m, Sliabh Liag will blow you away once you catch sight of them for the first time. Hike to the top of the cliffs and marvel at the incredible views of the Atlantic Ocean, the Sligo Mountains and Donegal Bay. Experienced walkers can also venture beyond the viewing point onto One Man’s Pass, which loops around the Pilgrim’s Path. For those who truly want to appreciate the beauty, a boat trip around the base of the cliffs will leave unforgettable memories. You may even get to swim with the local pod of dolphins!
Fanad Head
Whilst in Donegal, a visit to Fanad Head Lighthouse, one of Donegal’s proud beacons, is a must. This can be found on the peninsula with the same name. Fanad Head Lighthouse was built after a tragedy over 200 years ago and is still in great condition. For some spectacular views of Fanad Peninsula, climbing to the top of the tower is a must. You can even spend the night in the lighthouse itself! And whilst you’re in the area, why not visit the breathtaking Lough Swilly and the picturesque Mulroy Bay. You might even spot some whales, porpoises or dolphins here!
Malin Head
Another place to watch whales, porpoises and dolphins is Malin Head, the most northerly peninsula in Ireland. Its remoteness is perfect for making you feel tranquil and at peace, away from the hustle and bustle of city life. In Malin Head, you’ll find the country’s most northerly tip – Banba’s Crown. This place was named after one of their mythical queens, and its outstanding beauty features in the latest Star Wars film.
